The Art Directors Club: Designism 3.0

October 2, 2008 § Leave a comment

Designism 3.0 is the ADC’s annual forum for creatives and designers to gather and debate their roles in social activism. Since I had to get my veep on (debate party at my house)- I was only able to attend the first part of the evening’s events. The two “events” that I took part in were- 1) drinking a few brooklyn ales and 2) listening to the “Designism Manifesto” presented by Allan Chochinov, designer, educator and partner at Core77.

NOTES:
Chochinov listed 5 imperatives of design:
1) Use the word consequence
Designers are in the consequence business and we should make our clients aware of this.

2) Acknowledge privilege
GoSkyWatch Planetarium lets the user accept Pluto as a planet/ or not.

3) Tell the truth
fast food vs. reality
Sevin Coskun

4) Celebrate life
national park(ing) day

5) Don’t wait
